Questions people actually ask

Do you take insurance?+

No — this is a private-pay practice, and that's deliberate. Using insurance generally requires a mental-health diagnosis and involves sharing certain clinical information with your insurer for claims and reimbursement. Working privately means the clinical decisions — how long, how often, what we focus on — are made by you and me, no one else. I do work on a sliding scale, and I provide a superbill upon request.

Is there a sliding scale?+

Yes. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available for clients for whom the standard fee is out of reach. Bring it up on the free consultation — it's a normal question, and you'll get a straight answer.

Can I still get reimbursed by my insurance?+

Often, yes. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, I provide a superbill upon request that you submit for reimbursement — your plan may reimburse a portion of your fee after your deductible, depending on your out-of-network benefits. Call the number on your insurance card and ask about 'out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits' to find out what your plan covers.

Can people actually heal or recover from PTSD?+

Yes — though it does take time and work. Trauma is not only treatable — healing and meaningful recovery are both possible. Healing can't be forced: the counselor can facilitate and educate, but meaningful change ultimately requires the client's participation. That conviction, backed by doctoral research in trauma recovery, is the foundation of this entire practice.

How quickly can I actually be seen?+

I strive to ensure every new client is seen for a consult within the first three business days of reaching out. The first full session usually follows within the next week — or earlier, barring extenuating circumstances.

Do you see clients in person?+

Not currently — the practice is fully telehealth for clients located anywhere in Indiana. Sessions are extremely user-friendly: just a click on a link in your email. You'll need a private space and a reliable connection; everything else works the way an office visit would, including EMDR, which adapts well to video with the right setup.

Do you work with couples?+

Yes — I work with a number of couples from various walks of life and relationship stages, from getting ahead of a hard season to rebuilding after a rupture.

Are you a Christian counselor?+

I am trained in the art of incorporating Christianity into mental health sessions for those who request it — and all practices are otherwise evidence-based. Faith is woven in when you want it, and simply never comes up if you don't.

Do you work with children or teens?+

Not at this time — all of my clients are at least 18 years of age or older.

Do you work with conditions besides trauma?+

Yes. I am trained in addressing anxiety, panic attacks, ADHD symptoms, depression, and borderline personality disorder — and trauma work often overlaps with several of these.

Do you prescribe medication?+

I do not prescribe medication, but I have partnered with various psychiatrists — including psychiatric nurse practitioners — who can assist with medications if needed, alongside our work together.

How long does therapy take?+

It depends on the goals. Focused work on a specific pattern or single-incident trauma may run a few months; deeper, layered healing runs longer. What I can promise: we set goals early, review progress openly, and you'll always know why we're still meeting.

How often are sessions?+

Weekly, at a consistent time. Momentum matters — therapy every other week tends to spend the first half of each session catching up. As the healing consolidates, we may step down frequency deliberately.

What's your cancellation policy?+

Sessions cancelled with more than 48 hours' notice are not charged. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full session fee, because the time is reserved for you.

Is what I share confidential?+

Yes, within the standard legal limits: risk of serious harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. I'll walk through exactly what confidentiality covers in our first session.
